Mental Health in the Workplace

Looking after our workforce and striving for a happy, healthy workplace is crucial to keep existing and attracting new staff members.

Where the COVID-19 pandemic began as a health issue, it has had far-reaching societal, fiscal, and emotional ramifications on the population. Stress resulting from extended periods of disruption, fear and uncertainty has left many workers with reduced mental health and resilience. This means they are more likely to take leave or change jobs when they become overwhelmed.

At the same time, historically low unemployment levels mean workers have an increased choice of employers. This results in more workers changing employers and career direction than ever before.

So how can you promote a healthy workplace?

  • Implement Health and wellbeing policies, programs / activities
  • Create a culture where people feel accepted and valued
  • Provide a safe work environment
  • Provide Mental Health First Aid training for management and team members

There are many resources available, here are just a few:

1. Work Assist Program – As an employer there may be tricky times when you have an employee that may be experiencing difficulty maintaining their job due to injury, stress, anxiety or depression.  The Personnel Group can help employers and their employee, address the situation to prevent further absenteeism, reduced productivity and resignation.
